Federations

Eastern GP FSU

The work of these Federations is supported by the Eastern Federation Support Unit (FSU). The Eastern FSU has been designed to provide Federation members with support, advice and expertise in the design and delivery of service provision.  Eastern FSU functions include central management expertise, planning, accounting, communication, corporate governance, human resources, and the delivery of a range of services of behalf of Federations.

The core purpose of the Eastern FSU is to ensure that clinicians are free to focus on ensuring that they provide the best clinical outcomes for their patients, while improving the quality of care that they receive.

Three additional Federation Support Units (FSU) have been established across NI to support the work of GP Federations in the South, North and Western regions of NI. Each FSU is owned and governed by its member Federations and the geographical boundaries are aligned with already established Integrated Care Partnerships.

Across Northern Ireland, there are 17 GP Federations which have been established by GPs to support General Practice and facilitate the transformation of health and social care in a primary care setting.  Each Federation has been established as a clinically led Not-For-Profit Community Interest Company.

There are 8 federations within the Belfast and South – Eastern Trust areas which collectively cover a patient population of approximately 779,000 patients and, because of scale, provides services which would not otherwise be delivered at individual practice level.
